A photograph from the album titled 'Reminders of a Pleasant Summer and Winter in England 1917' curated and dictated by Will Crookston Hobson OSC1907
In the front page of the album it reads "To Dearest Mother With Fond Love From Will Sept 1917...Wishing her many Happy Returns of the Day".
The album is a selection of photographs taken by Will, during his time in England, whilst waiting to return to Australia after World War One. Will was injured in the war and located in a war hospital, he consequently lived and worked with his West Australian friends, while waiting for a safe passage home. The album was a birthday gift for his mother located in Perth, Western Australia.
Th photograph ' A Crystal Grotto' refers to the ice and snow at the Welsh harp Hendon, United Kingdom. The photograph belongs to a suite of images taken at Hendon by William (Bill) Hobson OSC in the winter of 1916.
Peter Rothery OSC1964, kindly digitally donated the photographs in the album belonging to his grandfather William Crookston Hobson OSC1907.
