Assembly notes
It is with regret that I advise of the passing of Old Scotch Collegian, Chris Owen OSC1951.
Chris started at Scotch College in 1946 as a Year 7 boarder, and left at the end of 1952.
In 1950, Chris was a member of the Library Committee. Housed in Charlton House, the Library grew in both size and popularity during the year. One of the tasks the Committee were charged with was preparing cards for all the new books which arrived during the year, as well as binding loose magazines into flat files. He listed his ambition as wanting to become a millionaire, his favourite expression was “Cor blimey!” and his weakness was “girls”. Chris received Junior Results in English, History, Geography, Arithmetic and Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Physics and Art.
In 1951 Chris was a Senior, and in 1952 he was promoted to Boarder Prefect. Chris was extensively involved in Rowing, and held the second position in the quad, which won in 1952.
Chris’ two brothers attended Scotch – Frank Owen (’50) and Michael Owen (’53). Both of Chris’ sons attended Scotch – Maurice Owen (’77) and William Owen (‘80), as did his grandson, Sam Owen (’15). Another of Chris’ grandsons, Darcy Owen, is a current Year 11 student.
Chris Owen passed away suddenly on 5 January 2018.
